Our process

What happens when we replace your roof.

Replacing a roof is loud, fast, and over before most people expect. Here's the whole thing, step by step, so nothing about it is a surprise.
01
STEP 1

We come look at it. For free.

Call or fill out the form and we'll set a time. We'll get on the roof (not just look from the driveway), check the decking, flashing, vents, and gutters, and photograph anything worth showing you.

Then you get a written estimate that spells out the products, the scope, and the price — not a number scribbled on a business card. If you're filing an insurance claim, we'll document what the adjuster needs.

Bring your questions. How many layers are up there, whether the deck needs work, how long it'll take — we'd rather answer it all now.
02
STEP 2

See it on your house before you commit.

Color is the part people agonize over, and a two-inch sample board doesn't tell you much. GAF's free Virtual Home Remodeler does: upload a straight-on photo of your home and swap shingle colors on your actual roof until something clicks. No photo handy? It has sample homes you can practice on.

Screenshot the ones you like and send them over — we'll bring physical samples of your top picks to look at in daylight, against your siding and trim. Color reads differently on a screen than it does at 2pm on a Tuesday.

Opens on gaf.com in a new tab.

Rather just look at samples? Say the word at your estimate and we'll bring the color board.

Not sure which line to preview? Start with the shingle lines we install.

03
STEP 3

We lock in a date and get you ready.

Once you approve the estimate we'll schedule the job around the weather and get materials delivered — usually a day or two ahead. The delivery is heavy, so we'll agree on where it goes.

Before we start, we'll ask you to move vehicles out of the driveway, take fragile things off the walls inside (tear-off shakes the house more than people expect), and keep pets indoors and away from the work area.

STEP 4

The old roof comes off.

We tarp the landscaping, the siding, and anything else that needs protecting, then strip the old roofing down to the bare deck. Every layer, all the way down. Roofing over an existing roof hides problems and shortens the life of the new one, so we don't do it.

It's the loudest part of the job and it usually takes a single day on a typical home. Debris goes straight into the dumpster as we go.

05
Rotted, water-stained roof decking with a hole worn through, exposed after tear-off
STEP 5

We look at what was hiding underneath.

With the deck exposed we can see everything: soft spots, rot, delamination, old damage nobody knew about. We'll show you what we find before we cover it back up.

Bad decking gets replaced. This is the one part of a roofing job that can change the price after the estimate, and we'd rather tell you standing on the roof with a photo than put it on the final invoice. Nothing gets replaced without your OK.

What we found under the old shingles on a recent job. Rotten decking like this comes out and new decking goes in before anything else goes on.

STEP 6

The new roof goes on.

Leak barriers first, in the valleys and around every penetration. Then deck protection across the whole roof, starter strip along the eaves and rakes, and the shingles themselves — nailed to spec, because nailing is where most premature failures start. Ridge cap goes on last, along with the ventilation.

Every piece is installed the way the manufacturer specifies. That's not just about doing it right; it's what keeps the warranty valid.

STEP 7

We leave the yard the way we found it.

Tarps come up, the dumpster goes, and we run magnets over the driveway, the lawn, and the flower beds — more than once. Stray roofing nails in a yard are the complaint we hear most about other companies, and it's the easiest one to prevent.

Then we walk the job with you. If something's not right, we fix it before we leave.

STEP 8

You get it in writing.

We register your warranty with GAF and get you the documentation, the final invoice, and the details on what's covered and for how long. Keep it with your house records — it transfers if you sell.

Common questions

Things people always ask.

How long does a roof replacement take?
Most homes are a one- to two-day job once we start. Bigger or steeper roofs, or ones needing significant deck repair, can run longer. We'll give you a realistic window at the estimate.
Do I need to be home?
No, but it helps to be reachable — especially on tear-off day, in case we find something under the old roof worth a conversation.
What if it rains?
We watch the forecast and won't tear off a roof we can't dry in the same day. If weather moves in mid-job, everything gets covered and secured.
Can I stay in the house?
Yes. It's loud, and things on the walls may shift, but there's no reason to leave.
Does insurance cover a new roof?

Sometimes. Storm and hail damage is often covered; ordinary wear and age usually isn't. Your policy and your insurer decide that.

Here's what we do: inspect the roof, photograph and measure the damage, and give you a detailed written scope and estimate you can hand to your insurance company. If your adjuster wants to walk the roof, we'll meet them up there and show them what we found.

Here's what we don't do: Texas law doesn't allow a roofing contractor to act as a public adjuster, negotiate your claim, or interpret your coverage — and we won't. You'll also be responsible for your deductible. Texas law prohibits any contractor from waiving or absorbing it, and anyone offering to is telling you something worth walking away from.

What about my gutters and landscaping?
We tarp and protect them. If gutters need replacing we'll tell you, but that's a separate scope.
